Poop, Pumps, and Policy

These are all words that kept us from swimming Thursday evening.  Yes....in 104 degrees, we drove around ready to swim and were DENIED THREE TIMES......for very different reasons.  It went something like this......
I hurried home to meet Jay after work, pack our bags for the pool, and go get Madison at the sitter's.  We like to spend several nights a week at the pool to cool off and as we've said before, Madison loves the pool!  We pulled up to Lifetime and noticed at 5:25 the guards were standing around and the pool was empty.  Hmmm......we proceeded inside and the front desk told us there had been an 'accident'.  She then referred us to a posted sign that said "Due to fecal contamination, the outdoor pool will be closed for the rest of the day.  The indoor pool will open for family swim at 7pm."  Right.  We were not waiting 1.5 hrs to swim.
So, off to Dick Nichols, a really nice free city pool not too far away.  It felt like something was off when we pulled up to that parking lot and it was almost empty.  Walk up to the closed gate and read the posted sign "Pool closed due to pump problems for an indefinite amount of time.  Sorry for any inconvenience."  Seriously!  What to do now?
"Oh, there's a pool in the neighborhood next to ours that you can pay $5 to swim."  Hate to pay when we have a membership and a wonderful pool AND access to a free city pool......but we REALLY wanted to swim.  IT was HOT.
So, policy denied our third attempt.  The neighborhood pool was kicking out anyone under 18 for adult swim.  We would have paid $10 for a short swim and then had to leave.
So, we went home and played in the air conditioning.
What a bummer - thrice denied.  But, we had fun anyway.

Jay returned to Lifetime Friday evening with Madison while I had a work event.  They had a great time and the pool was nice and clean.  I tried not to think about their refreshing time as I stood OUTSIDE on pavement in 104 degrees in pants and a Wachovia polo hawking new accounts to UPS workers.  Seriously, they pay me for this???  We were handing out water and feeling like we were going to die.
The cute story from the evening was when Jay & Maddie were playing in the beach entry part of the pool.  Maddie was really giggling at Jay and the female lifeguard leaned down and said "she's cute, how old is she?".  When Jay struck up a conversation with her, she commented how they (the lifeguards) all notice when she comes swimming and remember her.  "She's the only one who wears a pink hunting hat!".  What?  A hunting hat.  That's hilarious, its a sun hat.....and we call it a fishing hat.  It even has the little pocket on the top.  Grammy & Poppa gave us this hat - it says Lake Gaston.  It's the only one she'll leave on in the water lately.  Remember this......
She's infamous already! :)
